Try AT for Free
Your Technology. Your Choices. Your Life.
Our dedicated team at the Michigan Assistive Technology Program is committed to supporting your bodily autonomy, personal choice, joy, and independence in every area of life. Guided by the core principles of the Assistive Technology Act, we recognize that technology is about "increasing, maintaining, and improving functional capabilities" while honoring "respect for individual dignity, personal responsibility, and self-determination."
Whether you're exploring communication devices that amplify your voice, mobility solutions that extend your reach, or smart home technologies that enhance your control, our specialists bring expertise and respect to your assistive technology journey. We believe that the right tools, selected through informed choice, can open doors to fuller participation in education, employment, relationships, and community living.
AT Demonstrations
We are proud to offer completely FREE demonstrations that help you make decisions about which Assistive Technology will best meet your needs by comparing and contrasting different device features.
What sets our program apart is how we smash through transportation barriers! We come to YOU—whether that's in your home, at your local restaurant, at your favorite hunting spot, at a partner organization, or at your workplace. Our goal is for you to try AT in your natural environment where you're most comfortable.
We are truly statewide—providing services in every county. No matter where you live in the state, our team can reach you!
Demonstrations take place following a discussion with an AT Specialist. To schedule your free demonstration, contact MATP staff by phone at 800-578-0280 or fill out the demonstration request form.
Important note: A demonstration is not the same as an assessment that someone might receive from an occupational or physical therapist. The AT Act does not allow our program funds to be spent on formal evaluations or assessments. However, we are happy to work in partnership with your providers to help you explore AT options that align with their recommendations.

AT Device Loans

Sometimes trying AT for just a moment isn't enough to know if it will truly work for you. Our FREE device loan program allows you to borrow assistive technology and use it in your own environment for an extended period, typically 14-45 days, depending on inventory availability and your specific needs.
Device loans give you the opportunity to:
- Try out AT in your natural environment before making a purchase decision
- Test multiple similar devices to determine which one works best for you
- Experience how the technology integrates into your daily routines
Most device loans begin with a demonstration to ensure you have the proper understanding of how to use the equipment. This initial training is essential for ensuring you get the most value from your loan period and can effectively evaluate if the device meets your needs.
All loans are arranged through an agreement between you and our MATP staff. Our team will work with you to determine the appropriate loan period and ensure you have the support needed to use the device effectively.
You can view a sample of our available devices in our [online lending library]. Our inventory includes a wide range of assistive technologies for education, employment, community living, and daily activities.
To arrange a device loan or learn more about what's available, contact MATP staff by phone at 800-578-0280 or complete our loan request form.
For Professionals and Organizations
We welcome professionals who support people with disabilities to use our services.
When borrowing devices for professional development:
- Loans typically have a shorter duration depending on training needs
- The MATP prioritizes device availability for individuals with disabilities making personal AT decisions due to limited inventory
- We'd love to brainstorm together about how we can support your work while balancing our inventory constraints
When reporting on professional development loans, we're required by the AT Act to collect information on why the device was acquired through our program. The device must be acquired for one of the following reasons:
- Could only afford to borrow
- AT only available through the program
- Could obtain but the system was too long or complex

FAQ: Do you sell Assistive Technology?
MATP does not sell devices nor do we promote one device over another. The MATP can provide many resources on where to purchase. There are several options listed on the funding page of this site. The MATP also does not promote one device over another.
